Archaeology department for Langeland, phone: +45 63 51 63 00
Since Jens Winther founded the museum more than one hundred years ago and participated in a number of digs himself, archaeology has been the museum’s core activity. For many years Langelands Museum was the center of archaeology on Sydfyn’s many islands, and archaeology is still an important part of the museum’s activities.
Today the archaeological work is organized by Arkæologi Sydfyn – a cooperation between Langelands Museum, Svendborg Museum and Øhavsmuseet Faaborg – the latter being the official link to Kulturstyrelsen (the Culture Department’s Agency for Culture).
The cooperative unit thus has been given the archaeological responsibility for Svendborg, Langeland and Faaborg municipalities as well as the marine archaeological responsibility for the waters surrounding Fyn and the coast of Jylland from Flensborg Fjord in the south to Velje Fjord in the north.
More information on the archaeological responsibilities and information and guidelines for entrepreneurs can be found here: www.ohavsmuseet.dk
