Conservation Center Fyn
Phone: +45 63 51 63 12
The Conservation Center located at Langelands Museum (Østergade 25) does work for 12 museums on Fyn (Odense not included). The Center’s regular user group consists of these museums, which also contribute financially to the Center. However, the Center also takes on other clients, e.g. local archives and individuals.
Four fields of expertise
The conservation center employs 4 conservators, each working within their respective fields of expertise: textiles, paper, archaeological materials and the modern era.
These areas have been chosen on the basis of the types of artifacts and materials present at the user museums. Thus the fields of expertise have branched into subareas of expertise as well. The field of wet finds is an instance: It has been developed because Langeland Museum has been given the official responsibility for marine archaeology in the south of Denmark (Syddanmark). To this end, the Center has purchased a dry freezer to be used in the conservation of waterlogged wood, leather and textiles.
Within the textile area, the conservation and restoration of banners and standards has become a specialty because the majority of the museums have large collections of these artifacts, many of which are fragile silk banners.
